How do you know you are being tempted by Satan?
A useful tool to understand how Satan 'custom-tailors' temptation in our lives is what I call the Reverse Time Test. The thought was introduced to me through the Christian writer Tim Challies. It goes like this:
Imagine you could do anything. You could make it happen exactly as you wish. Then, you could reverse time so that it never happened: No consequences for your life, family, work, and no consequences on Judgment Day. What would you do? This is the area most emphasized in the custom-tailored temptation plan Satan has for you...and there are always consequences.

Satan is like a crushed rattlesnake. His 'doom is sure' but his bite is still deadly. 

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith..." 1 Peter 5:8-9

"You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world." 1 John 4:4


Satan is older than the earth and a student of humanity. He is far more cunning than we are. We are no match for him on our own, therefore we pray and express our dependence on the One to whom we have given our lives, who gave His life for us Galatians 1:4. He is greater than our adversary!
